Forrester Study: VMware Carbon Black Cloud Provides 379% ROI
A newly published Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study shows that organizations who replace their legacy endpoint security products with the VMware Carbon Black Cloud experience a 379% return on investment within three years.
The commissioned study conducted on behalf of VMware also highlighted that, thanks to the easy cloud-based deployment, faster investigation and remediation times, and the ability to eliminate multiple endpoint tools with a single platform, organizations could expect a payback period of less than 3 months on their initial investment in the platform.
This study was made by Forrester using customer interviews, surveys, and data aggregation, to summarize and quantify the business value experienced by organizations that deploy the Carbon Black Cloud. From the information provided in the interviews, Forrester constructed a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) framework for those organizations considering implementing VMware Carbon Black Cloud. The objective of the framework is to identify the cost, benefit, flexibility, and risk factors that affect the investment decision.

Business Value of the VMware Carbon Black Cloud
According to Forrester’s findings, the organizations previously used legacy or simple endpoint security tools which lacked the capabilities to stop advanced attacks and conduct advanced investigations and root cause analysis. In fact, interviewed customers rated their protection from their previous security stack a 3-out-of-10. After deploying the Carbon Black Cloud the interviewees ranked their protection as a 9-out-of-10.
On top of improved protection, organizations also explained that the top two priorities that drove their final decision to invest in the Carbon Black Cloud were the increased level of visibility into endpoint activity and the ability to consolidate the number of agents and reduce the complexity of their security stack.
Forrester’s study provides significant detail into some of the key benefits that customers have experienced from switching to the VMware Carbon Black Cloud, including:
Improved Detection, Investigation, and Root Cause Analysis: Switching from legacy solutions provided interviewees with a more complete view of endpoint activity — allowing them to act more confidently and quickly. One customer explained, “By the time we get in the platform and we’ve read the two different pieces we know within five minutes whether something is truly wrong, and if it is, where we need to start working.”
Reduced Time and Effort required by IT teams: Consolidating to a single agent and shifting to a cloud deployment eliminated 4 hours of daily work for IT and security teams. Maintaining the legacy AV, antimalware, and EDR solutions, all deployed on-premises, required supporting infrastructure and consistently updating the policies and definitions. In fact, 83% of respondents said that they have seen reduced friction between their security and IT operations teams.
Securing Remote Workers: The Forrester study also states that Carbon Black Cloud’s cloud-native approach, enhanced visibility, and flexible controls provide organizations with the confidence that workers’ devices are secure regardless of whether they are on or off the corporate network, which is of heightened significance for security and IT teams due to the newfound necessity of devices being used outside of the corporate network.
Improved Protection & Reduced Risk of a Breach: Moving to a next-generation platform improved organizations’ proactive detection and prevention capabilities, reducing the threat of a successful attack. According to the study, 94% of respondents said the Carbon Black Cloud provides them with a significant improvement in security efficacy.
Accelerating Time to Complete Audits: Organizations were able to build consistency into operational reporting and auditing processes. Using the platform’s audit and remediation capabilities, teams could quickly query their fleet to provide a complete and accurate picture of organizational compliance at an accelerated pace, which helped to reduced the likelihood that firms would incur regulatory penalties.
Reduced Need to Reimage Machines: Being able to act immediately — and having full confidence in the information received — enabled interviewees to reduce the number of reimages performed by their organizations. Not only did this eliminate unnecessary IT work, but it also allowed end users to remain on task and fully productive.
